Inferior vena cava filter thrombosis and suprarenal caval stenosis: a double whammy.

چکیده
I nferior vena cava (IVC) thrombosis associated with filters is not uncommon in clinical practice. However, suprarenal extension of the thrombosis to the hepatic segment of the IVC is very rare, particularly in absence of renal or hepatic tumors (1). Benign intrinsic IVC stenosis is a rare anomaly that has been associated with IVC thrombosis (2). We describe a case of extensive IVC thrombosis secondary to perihepatic IVC stenosis (documented by intravascular ultrasound [IVUS]) and a permanent

Aspiration Thrombectomy in a Patient with Suprarenal Inferior Vena Cava Thrombosis
DVT has rarely been observed in the inferior vena cava (IVC). Pulmonary embolism (PE), which can be life-threatening, often occurred in patients with IVC thrombosis. Therefore, an IVC filter is frequently used in those patients for the prevention of PE. A case of successful endovascular treatment of an IVC thrombus in a patient with relative contraindications to implantation of an IVC filter is...
متن کاملVena caval filters: a comprehensive review.
Hematologists are often asked to treat patients with venous thromboembolic disease. Although anticoagulation remains the primary therapy for venous thromboembolism, vena caval filters are an important alternative when anticoagulants are contraindicated. To assess the evidence supporting the utility of these devices, a comprehensive review of the English language literature was performed. Except...
متن کاملStrut Deformation of the Greenfield IVC Filter Associated with Blunt Trauma
We report an unusual traumatic complication of inferior vena cava (IVC) perforation by a Greenfield filter (GF) in a 19-year-old woman. She was inserted the Greenfield IVC filter in suprarenal position because of deep vein thrombosis associated with pulmonary embolism. Six months later, after repeated falls during skiing, she was readmitted to our hospital for paralytic ileus. A plain abdominal...
متن کاملPancreatic pseudocyst-inferior vena cava fistula causing caval stenosis, left renal vein thrombosis, subcutaneous fat necrosis, arthritis and dysfibrinogenemia.
AIM We describe the case of a 38 year old man, with a story of alcohol abuse, who developed a very painful nodular subcutaneous fat necrosis, fever and polyarthritis, denying any abdominal symptoms due to a pancreatic pseudocyst-inferior vena cava fistula. MATERIAL OF STUDY The authors discuss the unusual and protracted course with intermittent hyperamylasemia and hyperlipasemia related to cl...
متن کاملINFERIOR VENA CAVA THROMBOSIS IN A PATIENT WITH ESSENTIAL THROMBOCYTHEMIA
Essential thrombocythemia is a chronic myeloproliferative disorder characterized by a sustained proliferation of megakaryocytes, which leads to increased numbers of circulating platelets. Hemorrhagic and/or thrombotic episodes are frequent, and thrombosis of both veins and arteries may develop. Vessels in unusual sites may be involved, e.g., the hepatic veins, mesenteric veins, and the dig...
